Loughborough University swimmers, Melanie Marshall and Caitlin McClatchey combined forces with Jo Jackson ( Derwentside) and Ellen Gandy Beckenham to race to silver in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay at the European Championships in Eindhoven.
The awesome quartet smashed the British record by almost five seconds with a time of 7:52.36; the time bettered the Commonwealth record of 7:54.06 set by the Australians set in 2005 and is the fourth fastest of all time.
Caitlin McClatchey , who came within 3 tenths of overhauling the winning French team and set the 2nd fastest time of the evening with an impressive anchor leg of 1:56.19 said;
“ We worked very hard and put ourselves right up there on the podium. Sometimes we haven’t fulfilled out potential but we certainly did that tonight”
