Sutton Salute Super Sam
23 Jun 2008 10:11

Sam Hynd

Sutton Swimming Club have decided to recognise the massive efforts of one of their swimmers, Sam Hynd, and made him an honorary member of the club, a rare honour, and bestowed for exceptional achievement or service to the club.
Sam is only the second person in the 81 years the club has been in existence to receive this honour.

Coach Christine Greaves said: “Sam’s achievements are well documented and as his base club we felt permanent recognition of these efforts was very important. As far as we can establish, Sam is the first ever swimmer from Sutton Swimming Club to qualify for an Olympic squad. The fact that he has real medal chances is just extraordinary.”

PR Officer John Watson also said: “This honour bestowed upon Sam is a rare thing, and something that will be recognised for all time. We have very high hopes he has medals from Beijing that he can look back on with pride from what is a unique period in his life. At a time when our youth are so demonised by press and public alike, it is great to see people like Sam redress that ”
