Belper Marlin headed into the end of 2009 with some fantastic results at recent competitions. 2009 has been a successful year for the club and swimmers are training hard for the new season starting in 2010.
Belper came first again this year in the Round 3 of the National League held at Ilkeston pool on Saturday 12th December with 213 points beating off some strong competition. The girls 13/under 200m Medley team, Natalie Brett, Leah Hollingsworth, Hannah Kingdon and Emily Taylor set a new club record in 2.25.68 finishing in first place. During the gala the swimmers racked up 12 PB's and an amazing thirteen wins. Chief Coach Mick Howard said 'this was a gala full of atmosphere with a great team performance by everyone'
At the Derbyshire ASA County Long Course Sprints held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield on Sunday 29th November, the Marlin squad had some real star swims from the team. It was a long day of competing but out of the 31 swimmers who were there many gained PB's. Some of the most makeable performances came from Frances Marshall who clocked up 4 first places, Robert Ainley who took the gold medal in the 50m free and Hannah Kingdon who also claimed the gold medal when she came won the 50m breaststroke. Other placed swimmers included Ben Goodall, Matt Lawrence, Leah Hollingsworth, Alex Goodall and Connor Osin.
Belper Marlin Club Champs 2009
Marlins held their Club Champs over two weekends at the end of November, beginning of December and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped and volunteered. The competition was a great success resulting in at least 425 personal best times and countless club best times. All club members were invited to take part and novice swimmers experienced an opportunity to become involved in the excitement of competing. Following on from the Club Championships the Club presentation night is being held 21st December which should be a relaxing and fun night for all taking part.
Success At Masters Champs
Marlin Masters swimmer, Jim Corbett, claimed 5 age group Masters Championship titles at the Etwall Eagles Open Meet held at Queens Leisure Centre - a fantastic result for Jim and for the club.
