Nottinghamshire Sports Review of the Year
Paralympic Champion Sam Hynd completed another amazing year by taking the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year award. In 2009 Sam took gold at the Paralympic World Cup in May and three golds and a silver at the European Championships in October. These followed a new British and European Record in the 200 IM at the British Championships in March.
Also shortlisted for this award was Charlotte Henshaw, and for the Junior Disabled Sportsperson, Andrew Zawadski.
The Performance Coach of the Year award was won by Glenn Smith, Nova coach with their Squad in Mansfield. Working with Paralympic swimmers Sam Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw, he guided both to gold at the European Championships and Paralympic World Cup.
Glenn is a regular member of the Team GB disability coaching staff and also coached 13 Nova swimmers to the 2009 National Age and Youth Championships.
Graham Davies from Arnold SC was shortlisted for the Community Coach award.
Sutton SC’s Allen Urch was also added to the County Roll of Honour for his work as a volunteer with the club. Allen has been with Sutton Swimming Club for the past 42 years, initially as a poolside helper, then moving on to the Committee and serving as Club Captain and Head coach. He was Notts ASA President in 2009 and continues to teach at his club and to officiate at galas.
Rebecca Adlington helped with the presentations to the winners in the Junior categories.
