On Wednesday the 12th April clubs from the East Midland Region gathered in Loughborough for the first ‘Celebration of East Midlands Swimming’ evening, to incorporate information regarding the new Swim 21 Scheme.

The evening began with a welcome by the Regional Development Officer Mel Moss, who introduced the new Regional Director Di Horsley, before explaining the changes to the Swim 21 structure and handing over to the first guest speaker Sarah Price.

Sarah spoke about the highs and lows in her long illustrious swimming career and how the clubs especially her early club, Swim 21 accredited Barnet Copthall have helped and supported her throughout her swimming.

The evenings second Guest Speaker was Ian Armiger, Director of swimming at Loughborough University, who has coached a number of swimmers to multi international competitions and successes. Ian spoke about the importance of club structures for the development of young swimmers and how Swim 21 helps to create such foundations.

The evening concluded with presentations of Swim 21 certificates and re-accreditation awards by the East Midland President, Brian Johnson.  Awards were presented to Belgrave, City of Derby, Coalville, Enderby, Louth, Nottingham Leander, Sherwood Colliery, Treonte and Trident.

The Chairman of the East Midland Region Josie Grange made closing comments, and thanked all those present for their attendance.

The Office would like to thank all those that attended and hopefully it will be something to continue in the future.
